ABL 8th graders on the overnight trip to Boston were able to learn about law in real life when they visited the Massachusetts State House. Students had a wonderful time on the trip as they explored the iconic Freedom Trail.
Students in Class 707 engaged in an interactive design activity led by a Google software engineer. After learning about project design principles, they received some new swag!
ABL students had an exciting opportunity to learn about the future of AI during their job shadow visit to Capgemini! Class 806 learned about technology-based careers via hands-on activities like programming their own robots. Thank you to Ms. Mikhels, Junior Achievement of NY, and the SIFMA Foundation for coordinating!
On Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, our wonderful IS 187 Jazz Band, directed by Mr. Altieri, were the featured performers at the Junior Achievement of New York Gala held at Gotham Hall. The purpose of the Junior Achievement of New York Gala is to raise funds to support the organization's mission of providing financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship education to students across New York City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley. Our band played splendidly and was warmly received by all guests and honorees. Our jazz band members are: Jeremy Y. 807, Sophia W. 807, Yaniv R. 807, Kingsley H. 807, Andrew F. 802, Anthony C. 810, Devin M. 807, Marco F. 702, Itachi S. 702, and Adriel M. 710.
In addition, our Business teacher Mrs. Mikhels gave a welcome speech as one of A-NY's Educators of the Year and introduced two student speakers, Sophia W. and Yaniv R. of class 807. Both students gave heartfelt speeches detailing what they have learned about personal finance through Junior Achievement's curriculum and programming.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Mikhels and Mr. Altieri for organizing the performance!
On October 16, NJHS hosted a community service assembly for the sixth-grade students. Our guests were City Council Member Susan Zhuang, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Kim Council, and District Superintendent David Pretto. We also celebrated the grant provided by the Council Member and Borough President for the renovation of our school's auditorium.
